(How
this works)
I currently work at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source as a post-doctoral research associate. My interests are broad, and my projects currently include X-ray fluorescence studies coupled with dendrochronology, X-ray scattering studies of surfaces, thin film growth, high-energy diffraction of composition-spread thin films, and preparing for the next generation X-ray source. The Energy Recovery Linac will provide highly coherent X-rays and could lead to new paradigm in X-ray research, where a specific state is probed, rather than a statistical average over an ensemble of states.
I started art school at VCU in the fall of 1993, and transferred to George Mason University in 1994. In May of 1999, I graduated with a BS in Chemistry. I participated in Cornell's CCMR REU program in the summer of 1998 and moved to Ithaca in June 1999 to join Prof. Yuri Suzuki's group as a graduate student in the Materials Science and Engineering department. I participated in the construction and commissioning of a new X-ray beamline at CHESS called G-Line, and built two pulsed laser deposition systems, one of which is located in the G3 station at G-Line. The G3 lab is designed for studies of thin film growth using X-ray scattering in-situ. I have studied the nucleation and growth of heteroepitaxial complex oxide thin films, with atomic-scale sensitivity. I also developed extensive computer simulations and analysis techniques in order to quantitatively interpret X-ray scattering data collected during film growth. I finished my degree on October 3, 2005.
I am an active developer of open source software. There are many free, high-quality, open source software packages available for scientific research.
